A SURGERY THAT ADRESS THE ROOT OF PRESBYOPIA
Presbyopia is the progressive loss of visual accommodation with age. The accommodative amplitude is directly related to the ability of the crystalline lens to change its shape, that’s why it appears in midlife, as soon as the crystalline becomes stiff.
Phakorestoration focus on rejuvenating the lens material itself through a laser treatment. By softening the lens tissues through a particular pattern, the lens to deform again, allowing to retrieve a comfortable accommodation amplitude for daily life activity.
On the contrary of intra ocular implants, Phakoestoration does not need to extract surgically the lens, nor to open the cornea or create cuts. The material change are performed in situ by a femtosecond laser, the light passing through the cornea and focusing in the lens.
The laser energy is only focused inside the crystalline lens, allowing to retrieve the properties lost while aging. Everywhere else in the eye, the laser is completely defocused, ensuring no interaction with the retina or the cornea.
PERFORMANCE AND SAFETY
Phakorestoration improved lens curvature change by an average of 30% which is transpose in an increase of the available amplitude of accommodation by +1.5 diopters (+60% of the residual accommdative power).
Calibrated with pre-operative imaging, the laser energy is distributed following the biometry of the lens, whatever the size, position or shape of the lens. In addition, high-quality histology and imaging are proving that the laser interaction is locally changing crystalline lens structure as predicted by our computer model.
In vivo safety trials already demonstrate the perfect health of the cornea and retina after surgery in 100% of the cases.
